Yay, new candle! Now, what? - MOAIE Candle Care FAQ
Share
If you are reading this, you likely fall into one of two kinds of people:
- You have already purchased a MOAIE candle (if so, thank you!), or
- You are heavily pondering whether you should get one, but if you are here, you care enough to get a great-quality candle and want to know how to take care of it.
Regardless of what category you fall into, I assure you that you are in the right place, my friend!
MOAIE candles are special in many ways, starting with the fact that they are made with 100% natural and vegan-friendly soy wax. Because they are special, they also have special care instructions you should take into account to ensure its longevity and, more importantly, to make sure you and your space are safe from hazards.
Below you will find the candle card care we include in all of our candle orders:
Things to note after you turn on your candles:
- Soy wax may solidify back uneven after burning. Many people note that it looks bumpy or "cottage-cheese-like". This is totally normal and very frequent in natural waxes like the one we use, due to rapid cooling. Marble and granite surface tend to draw out the heat out of the candle too quickly, increasing the chances of this bumpiness to appear.
- We use natural cotton wicks, which might curl slightly as they burn. Burning your candle for 4 (or less) hours at a time, and trimming the wick before turning your candle back on, is essential to make sure the wick doesn't overcurl and for your candle to burn safely.
The most frequently asked question we get when mentioning these instructions is "Why is this necessary? When I get candles from XYZ store, I don't need to do this". Most people don't know that these instructions are an industry standard as established by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission and the National Candle Association. Most candle manufacturers include these instructions at the bottom of their vessels where they can be easily missed; that is why we include a candle care card and why we are writing this article.
